CEOs and top executives from some of South Africa’s most prominent companies including Sasol, Nedbank, Standard Bank, MTN, Consol Glass, Sphere Holdings and Edcon swapped the boardroom for the classroom when they participated in the country’s one-of-a-kind Execs Back To School initiative hosted in Cape Town and Johannesburg on 1 and 7 August 2019 respectively.

PfP Blog Transformative growth and momentum marked at 1,000 partnerships celebration

The establishment of 1,000 empowering partnerships for possibility between school principals and business leaders across South Africa was celebrated in Johannesburg this May.

Dr Mzukisi Qobo, Associate Professor of International Business and Strategy at Wits Business School,was the keynote speaker at PfP’s 1,000 partnerships celebration held at Rembrandt Primary School on 29 May 2019. The event saw PfP participants and team members, along with representatives from partner organisationsand other education stakeholders, gather to celebrate an important milestone in the life of the PfP programme.

PfP Blog May Outdoor Classroom Day 2019

Thursday the 23rd of May was a beautiful crisp, blue sky, Autumn day in South Africa. More than 300 schools and 54 000 children had signed up to take part in the Global Outdoor Classroom Day. Collectively around the world more than 1, 7 million children were doing the same.

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. On the day, thousands of schools around the world take lessons outside and prioritise playtime. As well as having fun, they will show how important and easy it is to give children more time outdoors.

The campaign is about more than just one day; it is a catalyst to inspire more time outdoors every day, both at school and at home. To achieve this, the campaign has three aims:

PfP Blog Execs Back to School: Engage for change

The inaugural 2018 Execs Back to School initiative was a resounding success. Some of the CEOs of the country’s most prominent companies participated in this initiative that was driven by Symphonia for South Africa (SSA), powered by Sphere Holdings, and based on New York City’s PENCIL Group’s ‘Principal for a Day’ campaign.

The CEOs and top executives form some the South Africa’s largest companies including Sasol, Vodacom, Pearson, HP, Ethos Capital, Consol Glass, Sphere and Africa Rising Capital swapped the boardroom for the classroom in October 2018 to participate in the inaugural Execs Back to School day – the first event of its kind held in South Africa. The executives spent the day at one of 27 government-run schools around Johannesburg, Soweto and Tembisa, and accompanied the school principal as they performed their daily duties.

PfP Blog Sustainable Energy leaders to contribute to SA education

The work of Symphonia for South Africa (SSA) is to receive a sustainable financial boost through a collaboration with leaders in commercial-scale installations of solar Photovoltaic systems, Emergent Energy South Africa.

Emergent’s innovative project, Donate your Roof (DYR), seeks to encourage large corporates to ‘rent out’ their roofs for solar power generation. The savings accumulated from using solar power, as opposed to electricity provided by an already over-burdened Eskom, are then donated to Symphonia for SA.

Emergent CEO, Yoann Joyeux, explained why partnering with a progressive ‘’doers of society’’, like Symphonia SA, makes sense.
