PfP Blog World Read Aloud Day: Active citizens encourage a love of reading

If we are to reduce the existing inequalities in education, we must capitalise on innovative ways to encourage all our children to read.

PfP Blog Another decade, possibilities abound!

With this first quarterly newsletter of 2020, the Partners for Possibility team extend a warm welcome back to all of our community members.

Our bold and audacious vision is quality education for all children in South Africa. This year we plan to launch 288 partnerships - the most we have attempted to launch in a single year. This will put us firmly on track to realising our goal of impacting 2,000 schools by 2022 (10% of the estimated 20,000 under-resourced schools in South Africa).

We envisage that 2020 will be our most challenging, but immensely rewarding year yet – and we want you to be a part of it! We believe that our community of passionate people, and the relationships, connections and collaborations we are able to forge will form the bedrock of our success this year. PfP truly values every contribution of active citizenship, whether in the form of funds, expertise or the provision of time. We ask you, and anyone in your network, to please connect with us so that together we can make 2020 a year alive with even greater possibility.

PfP Blog We are stronger together

This is the second year that Symphonia for South Africa has been awarded the opportunity to manage Global Outdoor Classroom Day in South Africa. The day offers schools with children from 2 to 18 the opportunity to sign-up and commit to having their lessons outdoors on two dates each year. One in May and the other in November.

We would like to thank the Principals, educators and parents of the 87 500 children who participated on the 7th November. The photographs and videos shared from around the country portrayed children having fun, laughing, learning and connecting.

PfP Blog 2019 annual celebrations to mark significant PfP growth

Partnering organisations, funders, schools, business leaders and other interested parties will once again gather in Cape Town and Johannesburg this October to celebrate the continually expanding PfP footprint and to reflect upon the tremendous strides made by the PfP team in 2019.

Held annually, these celebratory events showcase stories about the transformational leadership growth experienced by principals and business leaders who have journeyed together for a year and beyond as partners for possibility.

This year, the Johannesburg leg of the celebration will feature a keynote address by Nolitha Fakude, the executive director of energy company Sasol. Crispin Sonn, executive director of the Gamiro Investment Group, will be the keynote speaker at the Cape Town event.

In April 2019, PfP reached a major milestone in the organisation’s nine-year existence with the launch of its 1000th partnership. Since its inception, the PfP programme has grown steadily, and its reach now extends to cities, towns, and in some cases remote areas, across all nine of South Africa’s provinces.

PfP Blog Not all ‘classrooms’ have four walls

Children who have the freedom to play today — making friends, getting lost in the moment, having fun — are better prepared for whatever tomorrow throws at them.

School teachers across South Africa are urged to hold at least one lesson out of doors on 7 November 2019 as part of the increasingly popular Outdoor Classroom Day campaign.
