Debbie Farnaby

Although now in semi-retirement, Debbie is a driven, focussed individual with a reputation for analytical, innovative thinking and the delivery of results. She has over 25 years of broad experience across the manufacturing and mining sectors within the ICT, operational shared services and commercial functional environments. She has over 15 years of experience with bottom line accountability both locally and internationally. Debbie has held senior global executive roles in both Sappi and De Beers, interacting with major corporations and corporate leaders across the globe. More recently she has been active in consulting roles and as a partner for Heidrick & Struggles in South Africa.  She has served in both executive and non-executive director positions for listed and non-listed entities in Europe and Southern Africa including De Beers sa, De Beers Consolidated Mines, Debswana, Element 6, Palabora Mining, Sappi Europe and  Sappi Technical Services. She has proven business acumen, excellent analytical capabilities, strong people and operational management competence and sound communication skills.

She has a strong technical aptitude built on broad tertiary qualifications including a MSc in Computer Science, a MDE in Mechanical Engineering and a PDE in Educational Technology. She completed the Global Business Leaders Program at INSEAD and numerous in-company business leadership programmes.

Debbie has also served  a secondment to public service at a national level with involvement in the CriminalJustice System through Business Against Crime  and continues to have extensive involvement in charitable endeavours, specifically the Hope Home and the Polio Research Foundation on a pro bono basis.
