Partners for Possibility

PfP Blog Literacy programme aimed at teens and young adults to collaborate with PfP

The FunDza Literacy Trust, which aims to popularise reading, is to offer PfP high schools an unmissable opportunity to improve literacy levels through the promotion of reading for pleasure among its learners.

In a country where the abysmal literacy rates among 10 year olds has been widely publicised, the established NGO has advocated that the benefit of literacy programmes, with a specific focus on English language comprehension skills, should be extended to the teenage and young adult population – an age group in dire need of attention in this respect. The organisation firmly believes that the more young people read, the quicker they acquire mastery of language, and gain the valuable life skills taught through stories.

PfP Blog Construction sector insurers to contribute to improved education in South Africa

The Federated Employers’ Mutual Education Foundation (FEMEF), an initiative of the Federated Employers Mutual Assurance Company (RF) (PTY) LTD (FEM), has confirmed its support of the Partners for Possibilities (PfP) programme, by funding the leadership development of 100 principals, from under-resourced schools in impoverished communities.

Established in January 2017, with the goal of supporting impactful, systemically orientated interventions in education, the foundation focuses on interventions of a scalable nature – a trademark feature of the PfP programme.

FEMEF’s support will enable Symphonia for South Africa, through the PfP programme, achieve its goal of reaching over 250 under-resourced schools during the 2018 financial year. Schools to benefit from the funding will participate in circles in the Eastern Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Northern Cape, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The first series of these partnerships will be launched in June 2018.

PfP Blog Symphonia board member flies PfP flag

Symphonia board member and mountain bike enthusiast, Dave Morris, together with his teammate, Alastair Rendall, completed the Sani2C three-day multi-stage cycling race from 10 to 13 May as PfP brand ambassadors.

The pair, who spent 19 hours cycling through the gruelling KwaZulu-Natal route, took the opportunity to share the PfP story with those they encountered along the way. Morris believes that a unique cycling shirt is always a conversation starter, before, during and after a race – and this is what gave birth to the idea of a PfP cycling shirt.
