PfP Blog May Outdoor Classroom Day 2019

Thursday the 23rd of May was a beautiful crisp, blue sky, Autumn day in South Africa. More than 300 schools and 54 000 children had signed up to take part in the Global Outdoor Classroom Day. Collectively around the world more than 1, 7 million children were doing the same.

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. On the day, thousands of schools around the world take lessons outside and prioritise playtime. As well as having fun, they will show how important and easy it is to give children more time outdoors.

The campaign is about more than just one day; it is a catalyst to inspire more time outdoors every day, both at school and at home. To achieve this, the campaign has three aims:

The inaugural 2018 Execs Back to School initiative was a resounding success. Some of the CEOs of the country’s most prominent companies participated in this initiative that was driven by Symphonia for South Africa (SSA), powered by Sphere Holdings, and based on New York City’s PENCIL Group’s ‘Principal for a Day’ campaign.

Read on to discover how the day unfolded, and what you can expect to experience if you decide to ‘go back to school’ this year

The CEOs and top executives form some the South Africa’s largest companies including Sasol, Vodacom, Pearson, HP, Ethos Capital, Consol Glass, Sphere and Africa Rising Capital swapped the boardroom for the classroom in October 2018 to participate in the inaugural Execs Back to School day – the first event of its kind held in South Africa. PfP Blog Sustainable Energy leaders to contribute to SA education

The work of Symphonia for South Africa (SSA) is to receive a sustainable financial boost through a collaboration with leaders in commercial-scale installations of solar Photovoltaic systems, Emergent Energy South Africa.

Emergent’s innovative project, Donate your Roof (DYR), seeks to encourage large corporates to ‘rent out’ their roofs for solar power generation. The savings accumulated from using solar power, as opposed to electricity provided by an already over-burdened Eskom, are then donated to Symphonia for SA.

Emergent CEO, Yoann Joyeux, explained why partnering with a progressive ‘’doers of society’’, like Symphonia SA, makes sense.

PfP Blog Partners for Possibility needs you in 2019

Partners for Possibility (PfP), through its leadership development and principal support programme, continues to positively transform under-resourced schools in South Africa – school by school.

In the eighth year, and with an audacious target of impacting 2,000 under-resourced schools by 2030 in mind, the programme succeeded in reaching 900 schools.

This signifies that there is increasing awareness among individuals and businesses of the urgent task at hand – to sustainably solve the country’s deepening education crisis. The programme’s footprint this year alone also points to a shift in the thinking of ordinary citizens: towards the realisation that the active citizenry of South Africa possesses the power to turn the tide.
